Yosemite, a treasure!
Have you been there? If not why not?
In June of 1864 this majestic piece of land was set aside as a National Park for the public. It encompasses 1,170 square miles of cliffs, domes, great sequoias trees, waterfalls, and lush meadows. It is situated in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of central California. Yosemite is a landscape worthy of one's attention. Every season offers a vision of magic and inspiration to all. Albert Bierdstadt is just one of the many artist who depicted it's serenity and beauty.
The colors are spectacular. The reds and golds of autumn, in winter deep browns and blues covered in jewels of frost, in summer, canyons of sienna and amber, in spring, mountains covered in waterfalls and valleys carpeted in so many shades of green.
Tuolumne Meadows , elevation of 8,600 feet and extends 12 miles. The El Catitan mountain 7,569 ft. towers 3,593 ft. over Yosemite valley. The Half Dome, one of the more popular sites is over 8,000 ft. Early spring is the best time to see and enjoy the waterfalls. Bridalveil Fall and Yosemite fall which cascades over 2,400 ft. and qualifies as the tallest series of falls in North America. These are only two of the primary falls in the Yosemite Valley. Yosemite shelters a variety of wild life, trees, birds, mammals and so much more. It goes on as far as the eye can see and as far as your willing to go. It seems endless to me.
My favorite season in Yosemite is winter! Located in the valley is the famed Ahwahnee Hotel. It was built in 1927 and constructed of oversize timbers and granite. It has a beautiful rustic style with ceiling to floor windows, walk in fire places and a view in winter you must feel and see. The hotel blends in to the environment such as you will.
The Towns around Yosemite National Park are lovely. There are a variety of Art Galleries , shops, restaurants and the people are so friendly!
